Promoting gender equality and inclusivity in governance, which are fundamental democratic principles, remains paramount.
Today, I attended a Roundtable discussion on Women’s Inclusion in Politics organized by the Policy and Legal Advocacy Center (PLAC) in partnership with Yiaga Africa, Nigeria Women Trust Fund, and ElectHer.
Delivering my address at the event, I reaffirmed the commitment of the ‘People’s House’ to enact laws that facilitate increased participation of women in politics and governance.
Beyond the enactment of laws promoting women’s inclusion, we must also cultivate an culture of inclusivity within our legislative bodies. This entails building a supportive environment, amplifying women’s voices, and challenging discriminatory practices.
I commend the organizations leading this advocacy and assure them that the ongoing constitution review by the 10th National Assembly will address gender imbalance issues.
