ONN Abuja 23/04/2024
Honoured to deliver the opening address at the National Dialogue on State Policing, themed: “Pathways to Peace: Reimagining Policing in Nigeria,” convened by The People’s House under the leadership of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, Ph.D., today in Abuja.
In line with the agenda of the 10th Assembly to prioritize peace and security of the Nation, this critical dialogue is an opportunity for a cross-examination of ideas on the most effective strategies to establish a more effective and efficient policing system in Nigeria.
Having sponsored the Constitution Alteration Bill on State Policing, seeking to provide for the alteration of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) for the establishment of State Police, alongside thirteen esteemed colleagues, I am confident in the commitment of the House to providing the right frameworks, legislation, and oversight to make state policing work for the betterment of our nation.
Our immense gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, colleagues in the Senate under the leadership of the Senate President Sen. Godswill Akpabio, Former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, Former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as well as other distinguished leaders and stakeholders who graced the event.
Together, we can reimagine policing in Nigeria, paving the way for a more secure and peaceful future for our dear nation, Nigeria.
Great
