INVITATION TO PUBLIC HEARINGS


In accordance with the provision of item No. 34 of Exclusive Legislative List, Part I, Legislative Powers, Second Schedule of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and Section 5 of the National Minimum Wage Act 2019, the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, has inaugurated the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage headed by retired Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Alhaji Bukar Goni Aji, CFR.

The Committee has the following terms of reference:

.i

to consult all stakeholders on the issue of National Minimum Wage;

i.

to consider the National Minimum Wage in the context of the dynamics of the national economy; and

i.

to recommend a realistic and practical National Minimum Wage to the government.

In order to ensure that all stakeholders are carried along in its assignment, the Committee has scheduled public hearings in the six geo-political Zones of the country on Thursday, 7 March 2024 at 10 a.m. at the as folowing venues:


(i) North-East

- Banquet Hall Government House Yola, Adamawa State


(ii) North-West

- Africa House Government House Kano, Kano State

(iti) North-Central - Chida Hotel Event Centre, Plot 224, Solomon Lay Way, Utako, Abuja


(vi) South-South - Ibom Hall, IBB Way, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State


(iv) South-East - Nike Lake Resort, Enugu Udulekenyi Hall


(v) South-West - LTV Blue Roof Arena, Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi Ikeja, Lagos


4. The Committee wishes to invite, the State and Local Governments, labour unions, employers of labour, civil society groups, small and medium enterprises and other stakeholders in the six Geo-political zones to attend and present memoranda at the above-listed locations. Their presentations should include, among others, the following areas:

proposed new National Minimum Wage per month;


ii.

proposed coverage in terms of the number of employees engaged by any agency and the area of economic activity to be excluded, if any;


iii.

proposals on how to enhance and sustain high productivity in public and private sectors of the economy to sustain your recommendations a paragraph 4(i) above;


IV.

proposed frequency and mechanism of future reviews;


V.

proposed penalties for contravening the National Minimum Wage Act by individuals or corporate bodies; and


vi.

any other recommendations connected with the subject matter from your perspective that you consider to be relevant and critical to the issues at stake.
